UNITAR is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its e-Learning course on the UN System, due to start on 29th November. Following the course’s success this summer, the Multilateral Diplomacy Programme will repeat this six-week course, which is full of useful insights, exercises, and demonstrative videos on how the whole UN system works.

Government representatives and other high level officials, such as international and non-governmental organizations, who often work with the UN, must be able to understand UN agencies in order to achieve their objectives and advance their interests. As an increasingly globalized world continues to underline the importance of multilateral dialogue and cooperation in confronting this century’s challenges, the UN will remain a platform for action and a central forum for the progression of ideas. This course aims to provide a historical, political, and analytical framework for liaising more effectively with UN representatives and staff.

Moderation of the course will be asynchronous and led by senior international experts, placing emphasis on online discussions and self-paced learning.  Participants will hence be responsible for their own independent learning.

The course includes six interactive training modules that introduce participants to the United Nations system, its principal institutional bodies as well as UN financing. At the end of the course, participants should be able to define and explain the structure of the United Nations system and how it functions, as well as to identify current and salient issues. A brief history of the UN system and its predecessors will also be included within the course content.

The course targets those working in the public or private sector, including entry and mid-level career diplomats, other public-service officials, postgraduate students, and staff from nongovernmental organizations, especially those whose work or studies is linked to the United Nations.
