I am pleased to reaffirm and strengthen this partnership today, taking an important step forward in accelerating our joint initiatives with renewed purpose and impact.

Hiroshima Dragonflies, through initiatives such as the “Landscape Connected by Basketball Project", aimed at fostering youth development– have built strong ties with the local community in Hiroshima. They are actively committed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the power of sports.
UNITAR, the United Nations agency dedicated to training and capacity development, designs and delivers programmes that strengthen capacity and skills to advance an inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous world.
By leveraging the strengths of both organizations and collaborating across these areas, both UNITAR and Hiroshima Dragonflies aim to advance community-based initiatives with a global outlook, accelerating impactful efforts toward building a sustainable society.
Collaboration for Peace and Sustainable Development through Sports
UNITAR and the Hiroshima Dragonflies have steadily strengthened their partnership since the signing of the initial memorandum of understanding in 2022. Their collaboration began with the “UNITAR Hiroshima Youth Ambassador Training Programme” in 2022, and has since expanded to include joint initiatives that promote peace through sport.
As part of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace in April 2024 and April 2025 initiatives, a video showcasing UNITAR’s efforts in peacebuilding through sports was screened during the Hiroshima Dragonflies’ home games, jointly raising awareness in the local community.
Following the renewal of the memorandum of understanding, UNITAR will participate in the Hiroshima Dragonflies’ peace campaign, “Connecting Wishes for Peace in 2025 – #OrizuruRelay.” Together with other partners of the Hiroshima Dragonflies, UNITAR will take part in this social media relay campaign, sharing video messages that connect voices and hopes for peace.
