6 December 2022, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation of the Dominican Republic (INTRANT), hosted the Road Safety National Week taking place from 19 to 26 November 2022. To amplify the outreach of the Autosobriety Training Programme to prevent drink-driving in the country, training and public awareness activities were rolled out throughout the week with a total of 340 beneficiaries.

Between 19 and 20 of November, various activities to present the programme took place in two of Santo Domingo’s main shopping centres (Galerias 360 and Downtown Center), including exercises with the Virtual Reality video to experience the effect of alcohol on driving performance, a road traffic map to raise awareness on road traffic crashes occurring in the region, and Autosobriety booklets were handed over to the participants.

From 22 to 24 November, training sessions were delivered in three of Santo Domingo’s main universities (PUCMM, UNIBE, INTEC) and in Santiago (PUCMM) which focused on showcasing concrete actions that can be carried out to reduce deaths and injuries related to road traffic crashes, along with training sessions on how to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol in the different universities.

The Autosobriety Training Programme to Prevent Drink-Driving consists of educational tools aimed at increasing awareness of the effects of alcohol on driving performance and recognizing drinking and driving as a key risk factor causing road traffic crashes. It is implemented with the support of Pernod Ricard and Pernod Ricard Latam in the Dominican Republic.
