22 May 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – On 6 May 2024, UNITAR and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and implement training programmes and organize summits, webinars, workshops and training sessions, as well as align efforts for resource mobilization. The two expect to collaborate in thematic areas such as leadership and inclusion, social innovation and entrepreneurship, digital futures, finance and trade, anti-corruption and combating crime, and business and public administration.

FGV is the first partner in Brazil for the UNITAR Division for Prosperity. It is a leading provider of business and administration courses in Brazil and its online course platform is well recognized in Latin America. By partnering with FGV, UNITAR hopes to build and expand existing UNITAR programmes in Latin America and the Caribbean to Brazil, including translating English and Spanish programmes into Portuguese.

This partnership marks a significant stride towards addressing multifaceted global challenges through concerted action and knowledge exchange. By bringing together their resources and capabilities, UNITAR and FGV aim to drive sustainable development, foster inclusive growth and promote resilience in the face of emerging global trends.

This partnership leverages our combined strengths to develop innovative initiatives aimed at tackling pressing issues.” - Prof. Marlos Lima, FGV’s International Director

Fundação Getulio Vargas, established in 1944, initially aimed to train skilled personnel for Brazil's public and private administration during a period of burgeoning growth. Recognizing the onset of a new era, it broadened its focus beyond administration to encompass social and economic sciences, becoming renowned for its excellence in teaching, research, and information dissemination. Pioneering initiatives included introducing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in administration, economics, psychology, accounting sciences, and education. Additionally, FGV played a crucial role in establishing the groundwork for Brazil's economy through the development of key economic indicators and analyses, contributing to a better understanding of the nation's economic and social landscape among professionals and the public alike.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a dedicated training arm of the United Nations. In 2022, UNITAR trained over 395,000 learners around the world to support their actions for a better future. In addition to our headquarters in Geneva, we have offices in Hiroshima, New York and Bonn and networks around the world.

The Division for Prosperity is based in the Hiroshima Office and Geneva.
