8 April 2024 - It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of Mr. Marcel André Boisard, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and former Executive Director of UNITAR from 1992 to 2007. The news of his departure has deeply saddened us all.

25 March 2024, New York, USA - UNITAR and Columbia Law School launched the spring 2024 iteration of one of UNITAR´s longest partnership programmes, The Columbia University Law School Series, with the first session titled "Empowering Women in the Peace Process"

21 March 2024, Geneva, Switzerland - To promote cooperation between member states and between member states and international and regional organizations on conflict prevention and response, UNITAR, the African Union, the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the Colombian Permanent Mission to the UN, organized a side event to the 55th session of the Human Rights Council, titled Building Bridges for Peace. An exchange of experiences on DDR and its linkages with human rights, early warning, and conflict prevention between Colombia and African Contexts, that took place on 11 March 2024 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was organized in the framework of the UK FCDO-funded joint African Union, United Nations and World Bank programme “Strengthening Operational Linkages between Early Warning and Conflict Response (2023-2025)”.

19 March 2024, Derby, United Kingdom - Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023,  the University of Derby recently hosted the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The two-day visit started with a presentation on hostage negotiation in Afghanistan, highlighting the role of intergovernmental agencies and local leaders in safeguarding civilians. This was followed by a networking session with MSc Intelligence, Security and Disaster Management students, and staff from across the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences (BLSS).

26 February 2024, London, United Kingdom – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Professors Without Borders (Prowibo) have entered into a strategic partnership, marking a significant stride in enhancing global higher education and research. This alliance, focusing on academic development and research, underscores a shared dedication to quality education and impactful innovation.



Signed by Mr. Evariste Karambizi of UNITAR and Dr. Caroline Varin of Prowibo, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishes a framework for research collaboration and educational resource sharing. Central to this partnership is the emphasis on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4, SDG 16, and SDG 17, reflecting both organizations' aligned objectives. Key initiatives include joint research projects and the dissemination of findings through Prowibo’s academic journal, Higher Education Compass.

04 December 2023, L'viv, Ukraine - Cultural heritage, a cornerstone of identity and a repository of memory and unity has persistently faced threats since the onset of the war in Ukraine. In conflict zones, satellite imagery often serves as the primary tool for accessing accurate, data-backed information regarding the extent of damage to cultural heritage.

8 November 2023, Lisbon, Portugal - Delegates from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the National Institute of Administration (INA, I.P.) met in Lisbon to formalize a strategic partnership encompassing various areas of collaboration, including training and research activities in the field of public administration and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
