12 to 14 July 2011, Benin City, Nigeria. The Government of Edo State Nigeria and UNITAR organized a knowledge sharing workshop on climate change in the Niger Delta Region to enhance capacity and knowledge about the effects of climate change and promote actions to mitigate these effects.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research is pleased to announce a French-Language Workshop on Effective Negotiation in Multilateral Conferences to be held on 7 and 8 September at United Nations Headquarters in New York (Conference Room C). The UN Development Group (UNDG), in collaboration with several partners, organized a workshop for the Latin American and Caribbean region to support UN Country Teams in mainstreaming environmental sustainability, climate change, and disaster risk reduction in country programming. The event that took place on 11-15 July 2011 in Panamá was supported by UNITAR with resources from UN CC:Learn.

The main purpose of the Institute is to promote international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law and related issues.

June 2010, Geneva, Switzerland - The Duke University Course on Humanitarian Assistance and Human Rights provides each year participants with a thorough introduction to international humanitarian assistance, human rights, and human security. Since a few years the course is hosted at UNITAR and supported by the UNOSAT Team.

On Friday, 22 July 2011, the Economic and Social Council adopted a resolution which acknowledged progress made by UNITAR in a number of areas and expressed encouragement by the growth in beneficiary outreach and the increase in earmarked contributions.
