17 June 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. Recently MDP trained eleven Geneva based diplomats on Conference Diplomacy. The two day workshop “Introduction on Conference Diplomacy” is intended to familiarize junior diplomats with the world of conference diplomacy and help them overcome obstacles.

14-17 June 2011, Tokyo, Japan. The inaugural UNITAR Diplomatic Training Series Session took place at United Nations University in Tokyo between June 14 and 17 2011. Attended by 19 diplomats resident in Japan, representing 17 nations, the programme examined the impact of culture on the frames of reference and working styles of those involved in multilateral environments.

21 June 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. UNITAR and the Republic of Congo (Ministry of Sustainable development, forestry economy and environment) have signed an agreement for a 2-year project on capacity building for implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

A Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) is a national or regional environmental database of potentially hazardous emissions of chemicals to air, water and soil and transfers off-site of chemical waste to treatment and final disposal locations. A PRTR can provide important information on what pollutants are being released in a territory, as well as where exactly and how much is being released.

7-9 June 2011, Plock, Poland. Between 7 and 9 June 2011, Plock’s International Training Centre for Local Actors (CIFAL Plock) held a 1-day conference and 2-day workshop on Sustainable Management of Solid Waste.

20-24 June 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. On the occasion of the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (COP-5) in Geneva, Switzerland, 20 – 24 June 2011, UNITAR/ILO and the Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention will hold a side event to brief delegates about the linkages between the international chemicals Conventions (such as the Rotterdam, Stockholm and Basel Conventions) and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
