Dr. Bachelet, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), gave the opening speech of the workshop. She encouraged women to speak up, no matter what the situation. A panel on “The Creation of UN Women and the Role of Women Diplomats” brought together Ambassador Puri of India, Ambassador Ogwu of Nigeria, Ambassador Burgstaller of Sweden, Ms.

12 September 2011 – UNITAR has initiated training workshops for Capacity Building on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in four ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand) and the People’s Republic of China. The training is part of the project “Strengthening National and Regional Capacities to Implement the GHS in ASEAN – Phase II”, funded by the European Union.
The training sessions are being conducted as follows:

UNITAR and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) are pleased to announce the Symposium on “leveraging satellite applications for global challenges”. The event will take place in Geneva on 11 and 12 October 2011 hosted at World Meteorological Organization headquarters.

5 to 9 September 2011, Cha-Am, Thailand. In the lead-up to the 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 17), the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand organised a five-day workshop on multilateral conference diplomacy, green diplomacy and their respective interlinkages.

 

5-7 September 2011, Geneva, Switzerland.  In line with the Institute’s strategy to strengthen accountability, resource efficiency and programme effectiveness, UNITAR held a three-day intensive workshop on Measuring and Evaluating Learning Outcomes from 5-7 September.

The e-Learning course on “Negotiating for Conflict and Dispute Resolution”, which was mentored by senior negotiation expert Dr. El Hadji A. Diouf, had 31 participants from all five continents.

22 to 23 August 2011, Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles - The implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was identified by Seychelles as a priority issue in its Capacity Assessment.

On 16 August 2011, Ms. May East, Executive Director of CIFAL Findhorn (one of the 9 UNITAR affiliated International Training Center for Local Authorities, located in Findhorn, Scotland), has been nominated as one of the 100 Global Sustain Ability Leaders by ABC Carbon, a renowned climate change consulting company, which notably produces the popular newsletter ABC Carbon Express.
