8 January 2014, Geneva, Switzerland - UNOSAT continues its monitoring of the large population of internally displaced persons roaming in and around Mogadishu, Somalia. In its new analytical report released on 2 January, UNOSAT says less IDPs are living in Mogadishu city than previously.

13 December 2013, Libreville, Gabon – UNITAR attended the Final Review Workshop held in Libreville on 13 December 2013. The main objectives of the workshop were to review the final outcomes of the national project for the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and to discuss next steps to continue promoting chemicals safety in the country. The workshop was attended by some 75 representatives of government, industry, non-governmental organisations, as well as a UNITAR resource person.

The situation in many of these camps is often harrowing, but nothing like the past few days, when cold weather and snow blizzards hit parts of Jordan and the West Bank, brought by storm "Alexa", which moved through the Middle East region from about 12 to 14 December.

17 December 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - As the situation worsens in the Central African Republic, humanitarian organizations are facing a new wave of 214,000 internally displaced persons that will bring the total IDP population to nearly 700,000 according to UN estimates dating this. In addition, over 230,000 refugees who have fled to neighbouring countries to avoid the violence.

27 November 2013, Hiroshima, Japan - The UNITAR Hiroshima Office held its 77th Public Session on 13 November, examining Post-2014 Afghanistan and the Role of Japan.
2014 will see the withdrawal of a significant number of troops from Afghanistan as well as a presidential election. This Public Session provided an important opportunity to consider the direction of post-2014 Afghanistan as well as the role of Japan.
