6 September 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - In a concerted effort to address critical issues related to disaster risk reduction, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) hosted the High-level Roundtable Dialogue “Scaling Up Disaster Risk Reduction in Humanitarian Action”, which convened 1,500 + participants from Permanent Missions to the United Nations in Geneva, United Nations country teams, local government networks and disaster risk reduction practitioners. The Roundtable took place at UNITAR’s headquarters offices in Geneva and virtually.

September 4, 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is delighted to announce that its “Art for Peace” Collection was selected as a finalist at the SDG Digital GameChangers Award, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in the “Peace” Category.

The process invited submissions from the Youth, Government, Private sector, Civil society, International Organizations and UN Agencies, as well as from Academia and the Technical community, and received over 450 solutions.

Nikki participated in this programme in Samoa which enriched her perspective, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage in disaster resilience.

She believes that diplomats like her have the responsibility to advocate for nuclear disarmament. But it’s not always easy to keep abreast of the intricacies of field. “We are constantly having [to] research all the issues, of which nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation is a huge part”, she says.

24 August 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – On June 2023, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has begun a new collaboration with the Hiroshima Corporation for Higher Education (HCHE) in charge of managing Eikei University of Hiroshima. As part of their curriculum, Eikei University students spend a trimester engaging in Project-Based Learning (PBL), tackling real-world issues to contribute to their communities.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and EU Business School are proud to announce the siginig of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see the launch of a new Master's Programme in Digital International Relationships and Diplomacy. The MoU solidifies this collaboration, marking a significant step forward in fostering education that aligns with the demands of the digital era. The MoU was successfully signed in a ceremony held at the UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva on 17th August with representatives from both institutions in attendance.
