CIFAL Istanbul

CIFAL Istanbul was established in 2019 in collaboration with Bahçeşehir University (BAU). The center’s mission is to advance and enhance capacity on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for public and private sector leaders, nongovernmental organization representatives, academics, local authorities, and students.

Through the transfer of best-knowledge practices, social awareness, and cross-sectional collaboration, CIFAL Istanbul seeks to strengthen sustainable development capacities for individuals and institutions at the national and international level.

Ebru Canan-Sokullu, Prof. Dr.  

Ebru Canan-Sokullu is Professor at the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations, Bahçesehir University (İstanbul-Turkey). Dr. Canan-Sokullu received her BA degree in International Relations at İstanbul University, and MA degree in International Relations at University of Essex. She completed her PhD at University of Siena as a European Foreign and Security Policy Studies fellow of Compagnia di San Paolo, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and VolkswagenStiftung. She was a research scholar at University of Cambridge (2006) and Ohio State University (2005).

Dr. Canan-Sokullu has been the coordinator of the Scientific Research Project on “Deliberative Democracy Approach to Post-War Integration of Immigrants funded by Bahçeşehir University Scientific Research Grant Programme. She received (July 2017) British Council Newton Fund Researcher Links Grant (Grant No: RLWK6-261786650) for co-organising the network on Political, Economic, Social, and Legal Aspects of Hosting Migrants and Refugees with University of Essex. She received the “European Foreign and Security Studies Programme” fellowship (2005-2007) for the completion of PhD and Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship granted by VolkswagenStiftung, Compagnia di San Paolo di Torino and Swedish Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. She was awarded the 2005 “Alexander George Graduate Paper Award” of International Studies Association (2005) and “Marie Curie Fellowship (2003-2004)”.

She has been an associate member of "Transformation Research Unit: Democracy Globally" (TRU) at Stellenbosch University (SA), and Scientific Team Member of Turkish Trends Surveys and Turkish Foreign Policy Trends Surveys conducted by Kadir Has University. Previously, she worked for the Transatlantic Trends Surveys and European Elite Surveys of German Marshall Fund as statistical analyst. Her research focuses on public opinion on foreign policy, immigration, military operations, and European Union and political science methodology. She has also published in Journal of Contemporary European Research, Armed Forces & Society, South European Society and Politics, Global Affairs, Uluslararası Iliskiler. Dr Canan-Sokullu has been serving as the Chair of Department of Political Science and International Relations and the Director of School of Politics at Bahçeşehir University.
