Maria is a distinguished public affairs expert and seasoned politician from Italy, boasting a remarkable career spanning over nine years of dedicated public service. Throughout the past decade, she has held pivotal roles as a member of the Italian Parliament, a member of the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe), Chair of the Committee on Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals, Chair of the Personnel Affairs Committee, and Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, earning recognition for her contributions to global development and sustainable governance.
Within the Chamber of Deputies, Maria left an indelible mark by introducing a pioneering gender analysis framework for legislative proposals, fostering a proactive approach to ex-ante gender analysis. Serving as the Chair of the Committee on Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals, she spearheaded a comprehensive inquiry into SDG16, facilitating informed decision-making through extensive consultations with diverse stakeholders and the adept coordination of critical operations.
During her tenure as a member of PACE, Maria assumed the role of Rapporteur for the motion "Systematic Data Collection on Violence against Women." She conducted thorough fact-finding missions in Spain and Finland, meticulously evaluating gathered data and ultimately delivering a far-reaching impact assessment of political policies, accompanied by comprehensive recommendations.
In her capacity as Chair of the Personnel Affairs Committee, Maria oversaw the reform of labor contracts and implementing open competitive examinations aimed at recruiting top-tier professionals within the Chamber of Deputies.
Maria's advocacy extends to the realm of gender equality and women's empowerment, where she has left an indelible mark. She is widely respected for her tireless efforts to champion gender equity and social parity. Her active involvement in numerous international forums underscores her dedication to amplifying the voices of women and girls. Since 2015, Maria has been an esteemed member of the Parliamentary Intergroup for Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities and has lent her influence to the Women Political Leaders network, further solidifying her commitment to advancing women's rights on a global scale.
