24 May 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations marked the 7th UN Road Safety Week from 15 May to 21, 2023, to raise awareness about the urgent need to continue to promote road safety and save lives. Road traffic deaths and injuries remain a global problem, with 1.3 million people dying and over 50 million people injured each year. Globally, more than 500 children are killed on the road each day (WHO).

16 May 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - Tim is a non-resident fellow of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR). Before joining UNIDIR, he served as the Director of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs in Geneva, Deputy Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament, and Disarmament Ambassador and Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations in Geneva.

15 May 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Since she was a high schooler, Dr Marwa Nofal was interested in the interactions between people. Wanting to learn more about human behaviour, she pursued medicine and psychiatry in her undergraduate and graduate studies. Marwa is now a psychiatrist at a public mental health hospital in Egypt, where she provides therapy to clients and conducts research.

12 May 2023, New York – The UNITAR New York Office, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Ecuador and the Permanent Mission of Portugal, successfully held a workshop on the Relationship Between the General Assembly and the Security Council on 12 May 2023.

18 May 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with the Government of Japan, is participating in the governmental public relations exhibition in Hiroshima. UNITAR highlights the impact of digital skills training for women, youth and professionals in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Sahel region.

05 May 2023, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR and Arrowad for Building Values, part of the Arrowad International Group, have announced the launch of their joint initiative, the Value-Based Leadership Programme.  

The 13th annual conference entitled: "Peace and Security Through Good Governance: Practical Solutions for Combating Corruption Improving Systems of Governance and Ensuring Human Rights" is to be held from June 20-22. The conference is a joint event between UNITAR and the Geneva Institute for Leadership and Public Policy

8 May 2023, Guadalajara, Mexico – UNITAR launched the Autosobriety Training Programme to Prevent Drink-Driving in the state of Jalisco in Mexico with the support of CIFAL Mérida, Fundación de Investigaciones Sociales (FISAC) and the Secretary of Public Security of the State of Jalisco (SSP).

4 May 2023, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR officially launched the One UNITAR Gender Initiative, the first UNITAR initiative that engages all UNITAR Divisions to promote innovative learning solutions on women’s empowerment, building on extensive experiences and knowledge of all UNITAR Divisions.
