Welcome to Vienna
This year, UNITAR is delighted to offer its very first edition of the United Nations Immersion Programme to the city of Vienna, Austria. This brand new immersion programme will offer participants the chance to immerse themselves in the city of international affairs and build knowledge of the UN’s work in non-proliferation, disarmament, and international relations, within Vienna-based agencies.
Vienna is one of the four main offices of the United Nations and home to 15 UN organizations, as well as 18 other international organizations. UNITAR will host most of its training activities at United Nations office at Vienna (UNOV). It will combine the following different elements:
- Expert Lectures
- UN Expert Workshops
- UN Official Tour guides
- Diplomatic Simulation Exercises
The purpose of this training programme is to equip participants with knowledge of international affairs and provide an opportunity to learn about diverse cultures from the diplomacy perspective. Additionally, it will offer the chance to visit the different UN agencies that are based in this international city and enrich individuals with the skills to start their career in the United Nations.
Content
This programmes will offer an incredible experience and in-depth knowledge of the United Nations. It will equip participants with the diplomatic, organizational, and multi-cultural skills, immersing themselves in the city of Vienna, and offering activities with the following UN agencies:
- United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)
- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA)
- United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
- Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO)
UNITAR's Vienna Immersion Programme will provide a focus on career development in the United Nations. Training workshops on this topic will provide a considerable part of the activity. Participants
The UN Vienna Immersion Programme is open to everyone with a deep interest in the UN, international affairs, diverse cultural perspectives and anyone looking to build up their career within the UN. Participants can come from the public or private sector, NGOs, think tanks and academia. University students and participants from entirely different backgrounds are equally welcome to apply.
In order to ensure the highest quality standards, a maximum of 30 participants will be allowed. Slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. At the end of the programme, participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion.

Registration
In order to register, kindly click on the following link and follow the below steps:
- On the event page, click on "registration". The programme will then be added to your shopping cart
- Click on the "check out" button
- Create your own profile on the UNITAR event page and fill out the required sections
- Review the correctness of all information and choose a payment method: (i) credit card or (ii) bank transfer
- If you choose credit card, your payment is definite and your registration is confirmed immediately on the spot
- If you choose to pay by bank transfer, your payment is not definite yet and could be delayed to a later point in time
- In either of both cases, click on complete payment. UNITAR will follow up with you via email thereafter
