7 November 2012, Hiroshima, Japan | Singapore | Kabul, Afghanistan - The final Web-Seminar in the seven-month-long UNITAR Fellowship for Afghanistan programme took place recently, connecting Hiroshima, Singapore and Kabul. The 59 Fellows, 10 Coaches and 4 Afghan Resource Persons of the 2012 Cycle, joined by representatives of UNITAR and the Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan, gathered at the Ministry to receive a presentation delivered by Ms. Winifred Loh of Singapore.

5 - 6 November 2012, Brazzaville, Republic of Congo - A training workshop on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was held on 5 - 6 November 2012 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. The workshop brought together 37 participants from government, industry, civil society, and academia representing the sectors related to the GHS, as well as a resource person from UNITAR.

19 November 2012, Tokyo, Japan - The UNITAR Diplomatic Training Series in Tokyo, run by the UNITAR Hiroshima Office, recently concluded its fourth session. Entitled Rio+20 and the Green Economy, the 4-day session saw representatives from 17 Embassies in Tokyo in attendance. With faculty members from UNITAR, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the session examined international developments leading up to, and in the aftermath of, the Rio+20 Summit earlier in 2012, as well as the concepts behind the Green Economy.

Since earlier in 2012 UNITAR/UNOSAT and the Swiss Development Cooperation are engaged in implementing a water management and capacity development project in Chad. This project, also known with its francophone name of “ResEAU”, has the ambitious aim of strengthening national capacity in the area of water resources by using mapping combined with  capacity development techniques tailored to the local requirements and designed together with Swiss and Chadian partners.

8-9 November 2012, Tarnów, Poland - More than 200 participants from 54 countries covering all regions of the world are attending the “International Meeting on Chemical Safety and Security” in Tarnów, organized by Poland and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in cooperation with the G8 Global Partnership and international partners.

October 2012, Munich, Germany - At an award ceremony in Munich in October 2012, AnsuR Technologies of Norway, a long standing partner of UNITAR/UNOSAT, won the ESA App Challenge, part of the GMES Masters European Earth Monitoring Competition.

23-24 October 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - The 3rd Steering Group Meeting of UN CC:Learn Partners took place on 23-24 October 2012, in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting brought together representatives from 16 UN organizations (CEB Secretariat, FAO, IFAD, ILO, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCAP, UNESCO, UNFCCC Secretariat, UN-HABITAT, UNICEF, UNITAR, UNSSC, UNU, WHO, WMO) and five countries which are currently implementing a national UN CC:Learn Pilot Project to Strengthen Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change (Benin, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Malawi and Uganda).
