UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) programme provides a rare opportunity for students to learn about diplomacy from diplomats themselves. Although there is no shortage of courses on global politics and policies, few (if any) provide this education in the context of the first-hand experience – experience the United Nations is uniquely situated to provide.

Through this immersive approach, students will not only gain a profound understanding of current global issues but will also witness the shaping of future events as they unfold. Our instructors, who are current and former UN ambassadors, diplomats, and delegates, will provide insights into a wide range of global issues, spanning the past, present, and future.

In line with our commitment to delivering a real-world learning experience, our course will blend virtual classroom instruction with the opportunity to observe UN General Assembly sessions and other UN forums. This hands-on exposure will enable students to develop a holistic global political perspective, providing a unique glimpse into the world of modern statecraft.

Our carefully crafted curriculum is designed to illuminate a brighter future through diplomacy. This program is tailored for professionals seeking to learn more about the United Nations, as well as students currently enrolled in disciplines such as Political Science, International Relations, Urban Affairs, or related fields. It is an ideal fit for individuals with a passionate desire to deepen their understanding of world affairs and for those aspiring to pursue a career in diplomacy.

The UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) programme invites you to embark on this enriching journey, where you will learn directly from the individuals actively shaping the international stage – the diplomats themselves.

Registration is Now OPEN For FALL 2023 GDI Programme

The UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative programme offers a unique and personal understanding of global leadership. Our diplomatic education provides both breadth and depth, considering even the often-overlooked aspects of leadership by delving into the lives of leaders themselves.

In alignment with the principals of global diplomacy, our students are encouraged to think collaboratively, creatively, and critically. These essential skills are applied to various diplomatic mechanisms, media discourse, and the responsibilities that come with being part of the global community. Our ultimate aim is to nurture socially aware and politically active students and professionals. Please note that spaces in the programme are limited and a selection process will be conducted.

The UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative programme runs on a term-by-term basis, including Fall and Spring sessions. Participants can select the term that best fits their schedule. The cost for the 2023 programme is $2,000 per term, and full payment must be received before the program commences. If participants wish to receive course credit, they should make arrangements with their individual colleges.
