UN IMMERSION PROGRAMME
During the upcoming year, UNITAR is delighted to deliver more 5-day field visits to Geneva. We will offer participants the chance toΒ fully immerse themselves intoΒ the host cityΒ of theΒ main UN officesΒ and thereby gain first-hand experience of theΒ United Nations.Β Β Β
UNITAR will host most of the activitiesΒ in the headquarters of the UN at Geneva,Β the historicΒ Palais des Nations. They will consist of a nuanced balance between the following elements:Β
- Expert lecturesΒ Β
- Training workshopsΒ Β
- Multilateral conferencesΒ Β
- Private guided toursΒ Β
- CareerΒ developmentΒ sessionsΒ Β
TheΒ purpose is to equip participants with knowledge and skills inΒ diplomacy,Β empoweringΒ them to work more effectively and efficiently in any international environment.Β It further aspires toΒ offerΒ access to theΒ UNβsΒ institutions and staff to build up networks and gain insights into future career steps.Β
CONTENT
The UN Immersion Programme to GenevaΒ serves toΒ provide anΒ overviewΒ ofΒ the United Nations. It willΒ helpΒ participantsΒ build solidΒ ground knowledgeΒ of themes and topics in international affairs,Β deliverΒ training in core diplomatic skillsΒ and offer activities with the following Geneva-basedΒ agencies:Β Β
- United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG)Β
- United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR)Β
- World TradeΒ OrganisationΒ (WTO)
- International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)Β
- World Meteorological OrganisationΒ (WMO)Β
UNITAR offers the Immersion Programmes to Geneva in four editions, in February, May, July and August 2024.Β It will provide an in-depth focus on career development in the United Nations. PREMIUM PACKAGE
Participants also have the chance to opt for an Immersion ProgrammeΒ premiumΒ package. This includes the 4-weeks UN Young Leaders Online Training Programme as preparatory e-Learning course. It is implemented on the UNITAR online platformin the four weeks prior to the field visitΒ and thereby sets the stage for their timeΒ at the UN.Β Β
ItΒ comprisesΒ 4Β different modules,Β whichΒ can be studied in a self-paced manner and require 6-8 hours of studying per week. It includes 5 hours of live components per week with UNΒ experts, weekly reading material, multimedia files as well as moderated discussion boards:Β Β

For premium package participants, the accommodation in Geneva during the field visit is included in the fee. UNITAR will provide 6 nights in aΒ reputable hotel in close proximity to the United Nations institutionsΒ (check-in: Sunday before, check-out: SaturdayΒ after).Β Β
PARTICIPANTS
The Immersion Programme is open to everyone with a deep interest in the United Nations. Participants can come from the publicΒ or private sector,Β NGOs, think tanks and academia. University students and participantsΒ fromΒ an entirely different background are equally welcome to apply.Β
In order to ensure the highestΒ quality standards, a maximum of 30Β participants per field visit and 50 participants per online training programme will be allowed.Β Slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.Β At the end of the programmes, participantsΒ will receive a UNITAR certificate ofΒ completion.

- Create your own profile on the UNITAR event page and fill out the required sections
- Review the correctness of all information and choose payment method: (i) credit card or (ii) bank transfer
- If you choose credit card, your payment is definite and is completed immediately on the spotΒ
- If you choose to pay by bank transfer, your payment is not definite yet and could be delayed to a later point in timeΒ
- In either of both choices, click on complete payment. UNITAR will follow up with you via email thereafter
