12 July 2022, Geneva, Switzerland, Paris, France, New York, USA – UNITAR participated in the Learning Session 9 on Innovative tools for target setting, peer learning and policy dialogue on SDG 4 and SDG competencies. This session is organized by UNDESA and UNITAR - SDGs Learning, Training and Practice Center – during the 2022 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (2022 HLPF). The event brought together UN experts, academics, and government actors to discuss education and the Sustainable Development Goals as well as showcase their experiences in integrating the SDGs into innovative pedagogical tools, educational programs, and policies.

This event also provided UNITAR the opportunity to present the work of UN SDG:Learn and present its new product, the SDG Fitness Test.

July 2022, Hiroshima Japan – In June 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh), also known as ISIS, attacked the town of Mosul in Iraq, destroying homes, displacing thousands, and claiming the city and everything in it for their own. The residents of Mosul, including Sayf Al Ashqar, lost everything they and their families had built over decades.

Thursday 7 July 2022, New York, USA – The Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Mr. Mikhil Seth, visited New York City during the week of the 2022 High-level Political Forum (HLPF). Mr. Seth met with several department officials, exchanged opinions, and discussed the work on capacity training for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

22 and 23 June 2022, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office hosted a two-day informational course on the structure, drafting and adoption of UN resolutions. This course was supported by SIDA international developing agency with a contribution to the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund, under the programme ‘Leveling The Playing Field.’ This programme focuses on the development of skills and knowledge of Least Developed Countries. This workshop is held yearly as a core training courses for UN delegates. This year’s course had a successful registration rate of 450 people and close to 200 active participants. Mr. Pelayo Alvarez opened the course by showing UNITAR’s helpful and easy descriptive video on UN resolutions, UNITAR’s Guidelines for Drafting UN Resolutions Animated Video, which touches upon the topics discussed more in depth in UNITAR’s book “Guidelines for United Nations Resolutions”, UNITAR’s UN Resolutions Book. Mr. Marco A. Suazo then offered his welcome remarks and introduced the panelists.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) held another session of the weekly training workshops for the 2022 President of the General Assembly Fellowship for HOPE (Harnessing Opportunities for Promoting Empowerment of Youth) — UNITAR NYO’s flagship initiative. Fellowship workshops are held every Friday at the United Nations Headquarters and feature multiple distinguished high-level speakers from various branches of the United Nations.
