14 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – On 1 July 2023, UNITAR Hiroshima Office held a public forum “Empowering Changemakers – A Force towards Sustainable Futures” at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Over 100 guests joined to discuss youth empowerment.

11 July 2023, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR and International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Shanghai (CIFAL Shanghai) proudly re-launch host the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Youth Empowerment Seminar for Change-makers and the SDGs Youth Creative Seminar at UNITAR headquarters on the 6-7 July 2023 in Geneva after a three-year hiatus during the pandemic.

10 July 2023, New York, USA - UN SDG: Learn partners teamed up for a virtual side event during the 2023 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) on the following theme: "UN SDG:Learn: One UN+ initiative to transform skillsets and mindsets for sustainable development”. The main focus of the event was about the importance of education in driving change and empowering individuals for sustainable development. UN SDG: Learn partnership, which aims to improve access to quality learning opportunities worldwide and promote sustainable and inclusive development, is an example of the One UN+ approach to addressing this challenge that no single entity could meet alone.

20-21 June 2023, Bangkok, Thailand: Natural hazards, climate change, unplanned urban growth, deforestation, environmental degradation, and scarcity of natural resources are hindering the progress of LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS in building resilient cities and communities. The IPCC AR6 report released earlier this year makes clear that the risks of inaction on climate are immense and the way ahead requires change at a scale not seen before. Climate impacts on people and ecosystems are more widespread and severe than expected, and future risks will escalate rapidly with every fraction of a degree of warming.

7 July 2023, Shanghai, China – On 24 June 2023, UNITAR and JICUITANG (Shanghai) Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and letter of agreement to collaborate on micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) development in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. The two organizations will develop training courses on MSME development and risk management. UNITAR Division for Prosperity Director Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto and JICUITANG Chairperson Mr. Feng Yuan signed on behalf of their organizations at the ceremony in Shanghai, China.

5 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR is pleased to announce a new partnership with Princeton in Asia through which a Princeton in Asia intern will work at the UNITAR Hiroshima Office as a Leadership and Inclusion Trainee over the US summer. Princeton in Asia interns are generally undergraduate students. The partnership is similar to UNITAR’s ongoing partnership with the Oberlin Shansi Fellowship, where a fellow works at UNITAR for two years.
